Dutch Literary Fund
In June 2015 the Dutch Literary Fund held an open call for literary games. Both Happy volcano and writer Joost Vandecasteele were looking for each others expertise. With a little help from lady luck, they found the perfect match in each other and entered the call. In July they got the message that they were among the five selected out of almost 50 projects. Time to develop a first prototype of the game. And quickly so. They had until December, where a jury had to be convinced of their work. The Almost Gone was one of the two finalist that got the production budget.
Joost Vandecasteele and Happy Volcano
Joost is a Flemish writer and theater maker with a weakness for let's plays and distopian vision that is very apparent in his work. Happy Volcano an Joost found each other immediatly on a creative level.
Winter’s pretty low-poly world hides a dark story.
My eye is immediately caught by Winter, by Belgian studio Happy Volcano. Its isometric perspective and instantly appealing palette are evocative of Monument Valley, but this isn't a relaxing puzzler.
Si nous devions décrire Winter, l’expression « le chocolat chaud des puzzles / point and click » lui collerait parfaitement à la peau.
Dans les couleurs pastelles, cet instant suspendu inspire une poésie et une nostalgie d’existence écoulée.
